This catalogue was produced on the occasion of the exhibition “Die Spitzenbarbe – ein Stück Kostümgeschichte" (The Lace Lappet – a Piece of Costume History) in the bobbin lace museum in Burg Abenberg, which can be viewed there from March 21 through December 21, 2008. Lappets were a very important fashion accessory in the 18th and 19th centuries. The catalogue contains a short introduction to the lace lappet and brief explanations of the various techniques in which the lappets were produced: Brussels, Valenciennes, Binche, Mechlin, point ground lace (Point de Lille), Blonde, Chantilly, applique lace, Bruges Duchesse, Brussels Duchesse, Honiton, Cluny/guipure, torchon, tape lace and the needlelaces: Alençon, Argentan and Point de Gaze.
